Śāriputra Thus addressed, the venerable Śāriputra (said to) the Exalted One: (What then is

168 To this āryaśrāvaka who is endowed with the four unbreakable confidences, all beings,
having conjured up the appearance of a Tathāgata, 169 would utter dispraise of the Tathāgata, they would say [things which bring him into]
ill-repute, which give him a bad name, which bring him a bad reputation. And [if]
they would say, “But you (?) are not 170 endowed with these dharmas of Tathāgatas, because you do not direct your attention
[to anything],” then, Śāriputra, the āryaśrāvaka would say to all these beings, 171 “So it is, so it is. Indeed, for the sake of not focusing [on anything] (anadhikāra) the Tathāgatas teach the dharma, not for the sake of focusing [on anything] (na
adhikāra). Without directing [their] attention [to anything] (amanasikāra) they teach the dharma, 172 not directing [their] attention [to anything] (na manasikāra).”
Then those beings would say, “We would not speak to you thus with this intention,
good man. These 173 + + +, (good) man, + + + + + are not proclaimed here. By whom, good man, are these
dharmas shown? You are deceived, you are wrong, [if you say,] ‘Dear sirs, 174 (a Tathāgata) + + teaches the dharma not for the sake of focusing [on anything] (anadhikāra), without directing [his] attention [to anything] (amanasikāra).’”

[1]
Space, honourable Exalted One, 184 (? is boundless), there is no touching [of it] (parāmarśa). This is the first point on account of which I say this: Space cannot be split or
broken 185 any more (than a hole) that has been made by the tip of a hair which has been split
a hundred times over.
[2]
Space, honourable Exalted One, is without form (arūpa) or appearance (anidarśana). 186 (This) is the second point on account of which (I say this).
[3]
Space, honourable, cannot be seen (anādarśa), [it] is invisible (aprakāśa), [non-manifest like] open space (abhyavakāśa). This is the third point on account of which I say this: Space cannot be split 187 (or broken) any more than a hole that has been made by the tip of a hair which has
been divided a hundred times over.
[4]
Space, honourable Exalted One, is beyond measure (apramāṇa), without limit (aprayanta), without resemblance (? anupaniṣad ). The measure cannot be 188 apprehended, how much less something greater? This is the fourth point on account
of which I say this.
[5]
Space is without characteristic signs (animitta), free from characteristic signs (nimittāpagata). This is the fifth point on account of which I say this: 189 (Space) cannot be split or broken any more than a hole that has been made by the
tip of a hair which has been divided a hundred times over.
[6]
Space, honourable, is not [an object of] thought (acitta), it is not [an object of] attention (amanasikāra). For these 190 (and other) reasons, I say this: Space cannot be split or broken any more than a
hole that has been made by the tip of a hair which has been divided a hundred times
over.

At that time, to that point of time, this great earth will be + + + + like the
372 (world system of the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened) Akṣobhya. Just like that,
all [bodily] actions of the people are allayed (pratipraśrabdha), and with regard to the mind / the mental actions there is modesty.
[3]
At that time the people will have assumed the ten virtues (daśakuśala) and unmeasured (?) 374 + + + + +
[4]
(At that time) every sickness of the people will be eradicated (pratipraśrabdha).
[5]
At that time (there will be) [pointed barrel-roof] houses (kūṭāgāra) made of seven kinds of treasures, 375 (just like) now [in the buddha field] of the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened
Akṣobhya.
[6]
And in the buddha field there, the three evil states (apāya) will not exist, 376 + + will exist.
[7]
At that time a woman will be pregnant seven days at most.
[8]
And the people will not have excrements 377 (or) urine.
[9]
And this great earth will be of a golden color, of a [pleasant] touch [like] kācilindika
[i.e., soft cloth], [and] similar to pāṇḍukambala [i.e., white woolen cloth]. As long
as the foot is down, [the earth] 378 (will sink down) four fingers, (if the) foot (is taken up), it will come up four
fingers.
[10]
And the people will have little desire, little aversion, little delusion, sharp senses,
[and they will] be devoted to non-apprehension (anupalambha); 379 + + + + + + + + + + + + in no way or form will there be any kind of inappropriate
behavior with regard to the interior (antarāsamudācāra), just like now 380 (in the buddha field Abhirati) of the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened Akṣobhya.
[11]
(And in the buddha field there,) the beings will (not) be subject to gods other than
the Tathāgata.
[12]
And at that time there will be no king, only 381 (the Tathāgata, just like [now in the buddha field]) of Akṣobhya, the Tathāgata,
the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One.
[13]
At that time the women there will be like here in Abhirati, 382 [the buddha field] of the Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened (Akṣobhya).
[14]
At that time the buddha field will be complete with all its parts, exactly like this
Abhirati, 383 [the buddha field] of the Tathāgata, Arhat, (Perfectly Awakened Akṣobhya).
[15]
And at that time each Tathāgata, Arhat, Perfectly Awakened One will bring to maturation
innumerable beings. And they all will 384 (attain arhatship).
[16]
At that time there will be bodhisattvas who have left their home.
[17]
The practise of passions will not be practised by them at all, 385 not even [while] being in a dream (svapnāntaragata) will it be practised. Likewise,
an explanatory gloss (? vārttika) on all minor [defilements] (kṣudra) should be done. Likewise, an explanatory gloss (? vārttika) on all defilements
(kleśa) should be done. The whole group of defilements (saṃkleśa) will not be practised, 386 even while being in a dream. The whole group of views (dṛṣṭi) will not be practised, even while being in a dream.
[18]
And at that time a monk [or] nun (will) practise the precepts (śikṣā), 387 how much less will they violate the set of precepts (śikṣāpada).
[19]
And at that time the prātimokṣa will [only] be one single verse (gāthā):
v. 1 Started with effort, then awakening understood,
(with mindfulness) focused, 388 + + + + [+]
strong [and] wise, calm through and through,
every sign should be avoided by you.
