v. 14One should ask that proper [person] for the dharma [which is] both praised by the wise and agreeable. One should (not) desire (a son), let alone a companion. (One should) wander (alone like the rhinoceros.)

v. 23One who has taken on the precepts, is of impeccable conduct, well-behaved, seeing dangers and faults, (should not desire) a son, let alone (a companion. One should wander alone like the rhinoceros.)

v. 25If one should find a wise companion, a well-behaved, strong fellow, [then] (overcoming) all dangers, one should wander along with him, satisfied at heart, mindful.

v. 38Gratitude is very hard to find nowadays in the world of men. Men are foolish [and] deceitful. Having become (free of desires) toward the entire world, one should wander alone (like) the rhinoceros.

v. 39They cultivate and serve [you] with a motive; friends without a motive are hard to find these days. With the mind unattached (to this or that family), one should wander alone (like) the rhinoceros.
